The relationship between client and therapist is very important, so choosing your therapist is a big decision. We will first arrange to talk on the phone. After this, if we decide to proceed, we will meet for one or two 50-minute consultations, where we can talk about what is troubling you and explore how we can work together.
Sessions are 50 minutes long, and take place in my practice room in Clapham Junction at the same time every week. This time is held for you, so missed and cancelled sessions are payable in full, even if you give notice that you cannot attend. You will not be charged for sessions that I cancel and I aim to provide a few weeks notice for any cancelled appointments.
Open-ended psychodynamic psychotherapy provides a regular space in which to meet for therapy on an ongoing basis. We don't decide in advance how many times we meet, though you may have an idea of what you would like before we begin.
In time-limited psychotherapy we work in a more focused way and think psychodynamically about a particular issue or goal over 12-weeks. The schedule for these sessions is planned in advance.
When we meet for our initial consultation we will talk together about both types of therapy.
